This song “Best Of Me” is so special to me! There’s a magic that surrounds it for real ✨✨✨
I’ve never worked with @raphael_saadiq (except on Lesson Learned but not in the same room) but it’s been a dream of mine!! The first day we got together he said, “Alicia, all I’ve been doing is playing the piano!” It’s as if he was preparing for me and didn’t even know it.
When we started writing #BestOfMe the chords flowed like water. They INSTANTLY put me in a place that I couldn’t escape. The words just rained down, the feeling was so emotional that I cried while I sang. I didn’t write one word down on paper, it came directly from my heart.
I played the moog bass on it because it’s my favorite low end. I wanted it to rumble through the song 🔈🔈🔈
This to me has always been my Ode to the love of my life @therealswizzz and my beautiful sister @sade. I sent her the song to get her blessing on it and she wrote me the most beautiful words. SHE, who I adore, adored me back. There is a beautiful validation in that. I don’t need to be validated but it sure does feel good from someone you have loved since a little girl, like I have of her!
